Boston Criminal Attorney Joe Keegan Quoted in The Herald News
Boston criminal defense lawyer Joe Keegan was recently quoted in The Herald News regarding a local Fall River criminal case. The article – which can be viewed here – involves a B.M.C. Durfee High School assistant basketball and football coach who is accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl over the period of two years.
The Fall River man was arrested two weeks ago on a warrant in Maryland and is currently being held on $50,000 bail after being arraigned Monday in Fall River District Court. Charges against him include two counts of rape of a child with force and two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.
Investigations began soon after the alleged victim told friends that the man had been touching her since the sixth grade and that he had raped her on one occasion. According to court documents, the victim also alleged that the man had promised her money to not tell anyone and that he had purchased a $3,000 bedroom set, cell phones, and shoes for her.
Discrepancies have also surfaced, especially after two of the girl’s friends reportedly told investigators that the victim had originally claimed that she had been sexually assaulted by her grandfather. Attorney Keegan – who has taken over the suspect’s defense – pointed out the inconsistencies in the victim’s story during the arraignment on Monday.
Attorney Keegan commented that the case lacks corroborating witnesses and physical evidence. “This is one person who made an accusation, and that is what this case comes down to,” he said. Still, the Judge agreed with prosecutors by setting $50,000 bail for a case involving serious allegations.
Attorney Keegan plans to appeal the Judge’s bail ruling, stating that his client does not have any criminal convictions and has worked as a youth counselor at the F.L. Chamberlain School in Middleboro. A delicate matter and one that requires the patience, creativity, and determination Attorney Keegan can provide, this case is one that has resounded throughout the local community. With his experience as a former police officer and his passion for unearthing the truth and protecting clients’ rights, Attorney Keegan will undoubtedly invest his full efforts into zealously defending his client.
